Earlier this week I found out that I was one of the June winners of the Beginner Block Lotto on the forums at quilting.about.com, and today my blocks came in the mail. Each month there’s a specified block to make and send in, which enters you in a drawing to win a group of the blocks. You can see pictures of the June blocks at the Blocks N Swaps blog.
If you’re interested in the lotto or any swaps*, either of sewn blocks or of various fabrics, the about.com forums are an excellent place to get involved. I’ve started swapping ‘noodles’ (2 1/2″ strips) and 10″ squares of fabrics along with the occasional block swaps. It’s a good way to do a bit of piecing and try out new-to-you blocks without having to make a whole quilt top’s worth, and the fabric swaps are great for building up the variety of your stash without spending super-$$$.
*And in quilting, swap actually means swap, i.e. trade, not SWAP. 🙂
